PRESENT SIMPLE:
for repeated actions:
I go to gym every friday night
나는 매주 금요일 밤에 체육관에 간다.
verb: “to go” (가다) → I go, you go, he goes, she goes, it goes, we go, you go, they go (가요.)
for actions in the present:
The teacher writes on the keyboard
선생님이 키보드로 글을 쓰신다.
verb “to write” (쓰다.) → I write, you write, he writes, she writes, it writes, we write, you write, they write (써요.)
PAY ATTENTION TO THE EXAMPLES!
GOES and WRITES → in the 3rd person singular, an “s” is added at the end of a verb
Other examples:
그녀는 콜라를 원해요. → She wants a cola ✅
(it’s wrong to say SHE WANT A COLA) ❎
그는 학교에서 돌아온다. →
He comes back from school ✅
PRESENT CONTINUOUS:
for actions happening now, in this moment:
I was eating. Now I’m resting a bit.
밥 먹고 있었는데, 지금은 좀 쉬고 있어요.
for planned actions happening in the future:
I am flying to London tomorrow.
나는 내일 런던으로 날아간다.
(I have already the ticket, it’s pretty sure that tomorrow I am going to London)
How to form PRESENT CONTINUOUS(연속적인):
verb “to be” + action verb + -ing form
I (subject) am (verb “to be”) going (action verb “go” + ing) to the cinema
(it means that IN THIS MOMENT I’m going to the cinema)
PAY ATTENTION TO THE EXAMPLES!
I was eating. Now I’m resting a bit.
“I WAS EATING” is PAST CONTINUOUS
(a continuous action in the past!)
“I’M RESTING” is PRESENT CONTINUOUS
(a continuous action in the present!)
→ 1ST ACTION: EATING (먹다.)
2ND ACTION: RESTING (쉬다.)
THE PAST SIMPLE OF THE VERB “TO BE” (이다.)
I was, you were, he was, she was, it was, we were, you were, they were
