1. Loss of Gravity (중력의 도움 부재)
When you are upright (sitting or standing), gravity helps keep stomach acid and food down in your stomach. However, when you lie down right after eating, you lose this natural downward pull, allowing stomach contents to flow back into your esophagus (food pipe).

2. Increased Stomach Acid (위산 분비 증가)
Eating a meal triggers the production of digestive enzymes and stomach acid to break down food. Having a stomach full of acid while lying flat increases the pressure on the Lower Esophageal Sphincter (LES), the muscle that acts as a valve between your stomach and esophagus.

3. Weakened Sphincter (괄약근 압력 저하)
During sleep, the pressure of the LES naturally decreases, and the swallowing reflex—which normally clears acid—slows down. This makes it much easier for acid to "leak" upward and cause irritation or heartburn.
